Unlike a UK MOT test that can be carried out at many local independent garages and main dealers, in Spain this is centralised. Most major towns and cities will have an ITV test centre.
Upon arrival at the ITV centre for your pre-booked inspection, you have to register your arrival at one of the touch screen terminals and then wait to be called to the desk for your paperwork to be checked to ensure all is in order and pay the test fee. After this you wait for your registration number to be called before driving to your allocated test lane.
You are very much involved in the ITV test in Spain. You don't drop the car off and go for a coffee, you have to drive the car through the test lane, onto rollers for brake testing, over a "pit" with the inspector underneath the car to check whilst you operate the brakes, parking brake and steering, along with various other procedures.
None of which is insurmountable, but if you prefer, we can handle all of this for you from booking the appointment to taking the car to the test centre and progressing it through the inspection.
